A four-mile hike up the Smith and Morehouse trail.
My wife and I decided to hike up to Island Lake. According to the trail guide, the hike to Elk Lake is a 12-mile round trip so we figured Island Lake would be a piece of cake. After seven miles and losing the trail we never found Island Lake. On the way back, my wife rolled her ankle and went down. This was with four miles left to go. Fortunately, she packed a first aid kit with elastic bandage so she was able to wrap her ankle and limp the four miles down. Close to where this happened was a great place to hide this cache. It's a small clear hard plastic box and contains items that might have been forgotten for the hike such as a small flashlight, rain poncho, sun screen, bug spray, and water-proof matches. There's also some fun things and some U of U stickers, pencils and pens. Enjoy!
