There is no need to go read all the plaques in this park, but if
you do you will find a few interesting things.
This are was originally the Belle Vue Hotel until it was
demolished without warning in the early hours of April 21, 1979.
The demolishing cause a lot of outrage at the time for the Joh
Bjelke Petersen government. You can read more about this at ABC
TV's Rewind: Bellevue
Hotel.
Nowadays, this courtyard has:
- A statue of our Queen
in her younger days,
- A memorial to Australian men and women who fought the
Battle of
Australia in WWII, and
- A memorial to the men and women from the Netherlands and the
Netherlands
East Indies who helped defend Australia in WWII
You will probably also see a lot of QUT students waiting for one
of the 'Loop' buses if you come during the week
The cache itself shouldn't be too hard to find, and no climbing
in any gardens will be required. I believe it would be wheelchair
accessible.
