This cache is part of a growing international series of "Bug Hotels" which allow air travellers to drop off or pick up Travel Bugs, and also for UK cachers to drop off Travel Bugs leaving the country.
This cache should be easy to find. It has been placed outside the boundary of Heathrow to avoid security concerns. It is placed in a pleasant nature area just off the A4 (on the Slough side) which is close to the entrance to Heathrow from the M4.
There is a FREE car park as part of the nature area at N51°29.312' and W00°29.215. There is a width restriction to prevent vehicles larger than a car entering the car park. Confident / careful drivers only! If travelling in a larger vehicle then use the Sheraton Heathrow Hotel on the A4 at N51°28.973' and W00°28.863. It is free for one hour.
If on foot there is a bus travelling to the Sheraton Heathrow. It is the Heathrow Hotel Hoppa H4 (blue bus), costing £3 each way, which picks up at Terminals 1,2 and 3 (there is a free connection from Terminal 4 to the other terminals). H4 departs every 14 minutes from the ground level of each terminal. Alight at the Sheraton Heathrow Hotel, the cache is 1/2 mile (800m) from here. Note: this is also the hire location for Thrifty cars.
Alternatively there are plenty of taxis available at Heathrow and it shouldn't be an expensive ride. Getting back would mean flagging down a taxi on the A4 (I don't know how frequent these are). I can't recommend walking the whole way because the tunnels out of Heathrow are intimidating.
The cache is a large ammo box hidden under a small tree covered in Ivy. Follow the cacher's path through the grass! There is only a logbook and pencil, plus some spare zip-lock bags. Please leave spare bags at the cache. There is space for several large bugs.
Please record the name and objective of any Travel Bugs that you leave here, both in the bag with the bug and in the logbook. Please try to update this site and the travel bug site as quickly as possible to avoid other disappointed visitors - there won't be anything other than travel bugs here!
If you return for a second visit to deposit more bugs, please post the visit (and the bug) as a "note" not a "find".
If you are exiting the UK then you can update this cache site by using one of the internet cafes while you wait for your flight at the following locations:
Internet Exchange at Terminal 3 (arrivals); Webpoint at Terminal 4 (catering mezzanine level before security); Webpoint at Terminal 4 (after security).
Remember that security is your responsibility - assure yourself of the safety of any particular item before carrying it.
An Ordnance Survey map for the location is available at this web site.
