“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”

The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just two years, the quest has grown to over four hundred fifty caches hidden in Indiana, as well as Ohio and Michigan, and the hiders have grown to over twenty-five cacher teams, most of which of which are comprised of Dogs and their Humans. Over 1,000 cacher teams have logged over 12,800 finds. One of many cache machines found 102 ISQ caches in a single day (daylight hours only).

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #451

"Hickory Grove"

This family burial ground, known as Hickory Grove Cemetery, saw about 60 burials between 1829 and 1917. Neglect, tree roots and crashing cars caused serious damage to about 70% of the markers. Until last fall, it was so overgrown you could not tell it was a cemetery. An eight-day restoration was completed in early March of 2006 with stones leveled, cleaned and pieced together. Everybody buried in the small cemetery is either a Taylor or is related to one. Union Township used to have a small town called Taylor Station, which derived its name from the Taylors. The graveyard contains a Civil War soldier named Milton Hawkins, a member of the 72nd Indiana Wilder's Brigade. His stone is next to the stone that marks his wife's grave. An application has been filed to get a government-issue veteran's tombstone.
