How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Your Goal is Simple: Do Not Find This Cache
Do you have a problem with geocaching??? Are you a geocacher or aren’t you??? Only you know the answers to those questions…there is no gray area. However, taking the following self-assessment may help to put your relationship to geocaching in perspective!!! If you end up answering yes to at least three or more of the following questions, you may want to take a good look at how your life is being affected by geocaching!!!

  • Have you missed classes or work because of geocaching?
  • Do you have trouble refusing geocaching?
  • Do you need geocaching in order to have fun at a party?
  • Do you use geocaching to build up your self-confidence?
  • Do you use geocaching to help you relax?
  • Have you tried to give up geocaching and failed?
  • Do you crave geocaching as soon as you wake up?
  • Do you get into trouble because of geocaching?
  • Do you crave geocaching as a definite time daily?
  • Do you lie to others about how often you partake in geocaching?
  • Have you gotten into financial difficulties because of geocaching?
  • Do you often wish people would just leave you alone so you could go geocaching?
  • When shopping, do you place greater importance on the container then the price or money saved?
  • Do you check geocaching.com more than once a day?
  • Can you drive past a dollar store without thinking about geocaching?
So, how did you do??? If you failed and answered yes to at least three of these questions, don’t worry, we are here to help. This cache is a test to see how addicted you really are to geocaching and to be the first step towards recovery. We all know that there are those among us (and you all know who you are!!!) who, when they look at the page showing their nearest caches, see nothing but a perfect page full of finds. Then that new cache comes along and spoils your pristine page. It sits there at the top of the list…taunting you…starring at you…laughing at you…calling you names…yelling out towards you…

FIND ME…NOW!!!

You comply, even though the sun is barely over the horizon…the temperature is 30 below (without a wind-chill)…the sheer number of mosquitoes will carry you away…your lunch break is still 4 hours away!!! If you are lucky, you will score a First-to-Find. You race to the nearest computer to log your find and be the first to log the cache as well.

The cache is removed and your nearest list is sanitized once again…order has been restored to your universe…

The question is…How Strong Are You??? Can you resist searching out this cache??? You have nothing substantive to gain from it…

  • There is no invigorating hike…
  • There really are no breathtaking views…
  • There are no cool First-to-Find prizes…
  • This cache originally contained nothing more than a logbook and pencil…
  • Heck...I'll even tell you it's an ammo can...
  • Better yet, this cache can be found at the listed coordinates...
  • In fact, this cache is hidden in a rather uninspired way…
  • Even the text is for this cache page is taken from others (at times, blatantly)…
So, there really is no reason to locate this one…except, for the fact that it is there. The only thing you have to gain from searching out this cache is just adding another find to your total…nothing but another smiley and a single number to add to your statistics (not that statistics matter). Show the world how strong you are. You can stop geocaching at anytime you want. Really you can…

Optional Logging Description:
  • First-to-Find: The first finder gets the “honor” of being the first to sign the logbook and may provide a 60 word essay (minimum) as to why he/she/they are not hooked on caching.
  • All Others: All other cachers get the honor of signing the logbook after the first finder and may provide a 40 word essay (minimum) as to why he/she/they are not hooked on caching.
  • All essays regardless of being the first finder or not may be included/posted as part of the “Found It” log, but it is not required
If you are stronger than the rest of us…and can resist the call of the cache…please feel free to log a note and tell us your story of resistance…

Observations of Geocachers’ Wisdom
Locals: You will have the hardest time resisting this cache, since it will appear on your nearest caches list for as long as it remains unfound. Every time you check to see any new caches have been hidden nearby, it will be there waiting…calling for you. Sure you could place it an your ignore list…but can you really ignore a cache that you know exists and is so easy to find???

Vacationers: This cache is located in a park just outside of Rochester…Eastwood Park located on Highway 14 West...located immediately Southeast of the main Rochester Community and Technical College Campus. Admit it, you plan your vacations around geocaching. Don’t be ashamed, you are not alone…

Travelers: You may have the least challenge overcoming the temptation to find this cache, since it is a couple miles from Highways 63 and 52…and several miles from Interstate 90…the only temptation may fall upon those traveling Highway 14…just avoid the urge and keep driving. You know you can do it!!!

Additional Notes
By the way…in case you are wondering…I put out this cache because there is no way I could Not Find This Cache…I am addicted…and I am proud of it!!! When I sat down to start working on this cache…I figured I could not be the first to think of something like this…thus, after about a paragraph of actual writing…I decided to complete a search. I was correct…I was not the first to contemplate the complexity of geocaching and addiction. Thanks go to The Cheeseheads for the original idea GC7086:Do Not Find This Cache and itconmagic for some additional details and both for providing much of the basework for this cache…though similar; I tried to include a couple twists.

Above all else...this is just a game and please have fun. If you have any questions, please ask...I will do my best to respond within a reasonable time.

Notes Regarding Terrain and Difficulty...
Difficulty: 1-Star for the tree cover...pine trees can cause some signal issues (a couple places to check but not too bad). I will average those coordinates with others and create an additional waypoint that may aid your fellow cachers...but posting coordinates is not required.
Terrain: 1.5-Stars because nearest legal parking is a quarter mile from the cache...but walk is flat and mostly paved...please stay off Cross-Country Ski Trails in the snowy season!!!

Though some maps may show this cache in Eastwood Golf Course...it is Not in the Golf Course...it is located just off a paved walking trail in Eastwood Park!!!
