Walking along the causeway, you look out towards the rocky
deserted island, the wind is blowing through the ghostly black
skeletons off in the distance, whispering for you to turn back
while you can. You hesitate for a moment. Somewhere amidst that
scorched landscape along the rocky cliffs is an old tomb. Who was
buried there nobody knows. But, there is a legend among the locals
that an old map may be found in the tomb, and this map will lead
the hunter to a hidden treasure. You take another step forward, and
start following your GPS towards the coordinates given to you by
the old timer back at the pub. Here you were told to look for a
small metal tag hidden at the base of a burned tree. On this tag
will be the coordinates and a clue to the old tomb. At the bottom
of the tomb is where he said you will find a copy of the map that
will lead you to the treasure. The same wind blowing through the
trees ahead now pierces your jacket and sends a chill down your
back. The old timer was right, this is not just a cache... it's an
adventure!
- Watch kids and pets near cliff edges. Use caution when
searching for the tomb and the map cache. There are many loose
rocks here and excessive scrambling is not necessary, but it may be
a tight squeeze for some.
- Allow for an hour to complete this adventure.
- Don't attempt this cache at night.
- Please take only one map per group. Maps are not waterproof.
There are plastic baggies in map cache in case it is raining.
- Map cache and actual cache are ammo cans.
- For those with binoculars there is an active eagles nest at a
bearing of 240° across the cove from the first waypoint. A pair of
eagles can regularly be seen perched in the tall firs near the
nest.
- Access to the area is off I-84 at Cascade Locks. Drive
northeast through town two miles past the ODOT station on Forest
Lane Rd.
