Welcome to The Slaughterhouse!
Bakgrund
Under 30-talets början var antalet fristående slakterier
mycket stort i det som nu kallas Västra Götalands
län, och koncentrationen var som störst kring Svenljunga.
För att kunna konkurrera med de stora kedjorna som redan
då hade börjat etablera sig, gick många av de
små slakterierna samman och bildade SÄLS (Södra
Älvsborgs Läns Slakteriförening). Medlemsantalet var
stort, redan vid starten var det uppe i dryga 2000.
Bönderna kom snart underfund med att de behövde en
lämplig plats för att bedriva sin verksamhet gemensamt,
för att minimera arbetet. En ledig ladugård fanns
tillgänglig, och det är på den plats vi nu befinner
oss.
1933 köptes det före detta lantbruket av SÄLS och
gjordes om till ett för dåtiden mycket modernt slakteri.
Lastbilar inköptes, och charkuterier öppnades i
många av de kringliggande byarna och städerna. Till en
början gick verksamheten trögt, men när en
driftschef tillsattes 1934 blev det ordning på torpet.
Fler och fler charkuterier öppnades, och fler slaktare och
bönder anslöt sig till förbundet. 1942 var
medlemsantalet uppe i 6400, och SÄLS var då den
största slakterikedjan i södra och mellersta
Sverige.
1962 gick SÄLS samman med Västra Sveriges
Slakteriförbund, och stödet för detta var
nästan hundraprocentligt. Dock började verksamheten
gå ordentligt dåligt efter bara några år,
och slakteriet började gå på halvfart. 1969
bestämdes det att slakteriet skulle omformas till en
destruktionscentral för slaggprodukter från slakten, men
dessa planer gick i stöpet, och slakteriet lades ner i augusti
1969.
1974 köptes marken och husen av Svenljunga kommun, vilka
använde det som lagerlokal. Så småningom kom ett
byggföretag in i bilden, och de arrenderade marken av
kommunen, men användningsområdet var detsamma.
Vid mitten på nittiotalet användes lokalen fortfarande
som lager, och ett dansband hade också en liten replokal
här. Tiden gick sin gilla gång i det lilla
samhället, och den gamla, fina byggnaden slapp stå tom,
ända tills måndagen 26:e augusti 1996, då en brand
startade och snabbt slukade allt i sin väg. Byggföretaget
förlorade maskiner och verktyg till en summa av 400.000 kr,
men det lilla dansbandet lyckades rädda de flesta av sina
instrument. Inget av byggnaden gick att rädda, så
ruinerna av det forna slakteriet står idag spöklikt
tomma.
Ingen vet ännu varför det forna slakteriet började
brinna, men många talar ännu idag om mystiska ljud och
rörelser nattetid. Kanske finns det en mörk hemlighet
dold någonstans under det gamla slakteriet...
Background
In the beginning of the 1930's, the number of butchers in the area
now called Västra Götalands län was very large, and
many were concentrated in the area around Svenljunga. To be able to
compete with the larger chains that hade begun to spread themselves
troughout the country, they formed a cooperative named SÄLS
(Södra Älvsborgs Läns Slakteriförening = The
Cooperation of Buthers in Southern Älvsborg). By the time when
the cooperative was formed, there were app. 2000 members.
The farmers and butchers soon came to understand that they needed a
place where they could work togheter, to minimize work and increase
efficiency. A unused farm was available for sale, and that's the
place where we now are located.
In 1933, the farm was bought and renovated to a at the time very
modern slaughterhouse. Trucks were bought and butcher's shop's were
opened in the surrounding villages and cities. In the beginning,
business were slow, but when a manager was hired in 1934, things
started to look good.
More and more butcher's shop's were opened, and more and more
butchers and farmers joined the cooperative. In 1942, the number of
members had reached 6400, and SÄLS was the biggest chain of
butchers in southern and middle Sweden.
In 1962, SÄLS made joined forces with Västra Sveriges
Slakteriförbund (The Cooperation of Butchers in West Sweden),
a fusion supported by almost 100% of the members. Directly after
this, business began to look bad again, and a large portion of the
staff were fired. It all ended with the slaughterhouse beeing
closed down in August of 1969.
In February of 1974, the house and surrounding lands were bought by
Svenljunga Kommun (kommun = municipality), who chose to use it as a
warehouse. Soon, a construction company came in to the picture, and
they hired the lands and house from the municipality, but it was
still used as a warehouse.
In the middle of the 90's, a small band used some parts of the
house to practice their performance, and some stuff was still
beeing stored here, until monday the 26:th of August, 1996 when a
big fire started and quickly burned the wooden parts down. The
construction company lost tools and machines to a value of 400.000
sek, but the band managed to save most of their instruments.
Nothing more could be done, and to this day, the building sits
empty.
Nobody knows why the old slaughterhouse caught fire, but some say
you can still hear mysterious sounds and movements during the
night. Maybe there's a dark secret lying beneath the ruins...
Uppdrag
Er uppgift, om ni accepterar den, är att hitta cachen som
finns gömd någonstans i ruinerna. De givna koordinaterna
pekar på en plats där Ni kan finna en sifferkombination
som skall användas för att räkna fram koordinaterna
som leder till cachen. För att finna de rätta
koordinaterna, lös nedanstående formler och ersätt
"a" och "b" i koordinaterna med de rätta siffrorna.
Det finns ingen anledning att klättra över
några stängsel här. Det finns en laglig och enkel
väg in på området.
Mission
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to locate the
cache that is hidden somewhere in the ruins. The given coordinates
leads you to a place where a combinatin of numbers can be found.
Use these numbers to calculate the correct coordinates, which will
lead you to the cache. To find the correct coordinates, solve the
formulas below and replace "a" and "b" in the coordinates with the
correct numbers.
There's no reason to climb any fences here. There is a legal
and easy way in to the area.

The cache
The cache is a 1.2 litre Curver box, which from the beginning
contains; log book, pencils, Geocaching instruction sheet, relays,
a switch, a yoyo and a BNC-connector.
