聖武天皇の皇女、松虫姫の病を祈願により治癒したとして「松虫」の地名がついたと伝えられています。本尊の木造薬師如来像（重要文化財）は、高さ54.3cm、その左右に木造薬師如来立像はいずれも38cmです。古い形式の七仏薬師は全国的にも例が少なく、昭和43年に建てられた保存庫内に安置されています
