Geocache Description:

Welcome to the third Greater Edmonton CAR Event:

Cache and Release Winter 2008

Ammo Can Edition

(CARW for short). This is a winter second edition of the successful first annual CAR2006 event organized by Shearzone, and first annual CARW2007 event organized by KappaAlpha Team  This event involves hiding caches during the time leading up to the CARW event, finding the CARW caches over the designated 24 hour period and then meeting-up to swap CARW stories.

The Hides: Hide one or more caches between now and Monday March 3rd. We want to hide them early to give the reviewer enough time to approve the listings. All CARW caches should include a note to the reviewer stating that this is a cache for the CARW2008 event. Please include CARW2008 at the end of the title (e.g. My Cool Cache - CARW2008) to facilitate searches by keyword. Once approved, these CARW caches should not be sought out until 5:30 pm, Friday March 7th. The hides must be within (no further than) a 50 km radius of the posted coordinates, which are N53 31.277 W113 30.735.

Note on cache type and size: There’s a different twist for this event. All caches must be an AMMO CAN and must be winter friendly. They do not necessarily have to be in spruce trees. I have 105 mint condition ammo cans to give out. I have 75 of the smaller ones, 20 of the med sized ones and 10 of the larger ones. Please send me a personal message to reserve some ammo cans as they’ll be gone quick.  I'll be attending both the Edmonton and St. Albert January meetings to hand out cans for the event. If you’re unable to make the meetings and would like some ammo cans please let me know and we can arrange something.

The Finds:As of 5:30 pmFriday March 7th, all CARW caches become fair game to find. At that time, geocachers are free to hunt down as many CARW caches as they can until we meet at the event (24 hours later).

During the 24 hours of the CARW event, we ask that all geocachers also write the exact time in the logbooks for their log entries. This makes it a lot more interesting to know how close or far you are to other cachers.

The Event:At 5:30 pmSaturday March 8th, we will meet at the posted coordinates which is Plato's Pizza Steak & Spaghetti House, 8514 109 Street NW, Edmonton. Please post a ‘will attend’ if you intend on appearing at the restaurant and how many will be accompanying you so we can make reservations. The place is kid-friendly, so be sure to bring your side-kicks too!

Parking: Parking is available in the front and in the back of the restaurant.

Prizes / Recognition: Prizes / Recognition will be given at the event for the following:

Best Hide

Most Finds

Most FTFs

Best Story

Worst Mishap

Most Difficult

Best Swag

Most Geographically Dispersed

Furthest from posted Co-Ords

Most Hides

(We are looking for prize donations – please contact me if you have any suggestions)

Post Event: All CARW caches should be made permanent for all to find at their leisure following the event. Everyone is welcome to participate in this event in any way. For example, you don't have to hide a cache to find caches, or you can hide a cache even if you will be away that weekend. Or, you can just show up at the restaurant to say hi and have a bite. If you cannot participate but would to hide some caches for the event feel free to do so. We need enough hides to make this event a success.

If you have any questions, comments or ideas to add to this event, feel free to post them or send them our way. Thanks again to Shearzone and KappaAlpha Team for bringing this idea to the Edmonton area with the successful first annual CAR2006 and the first ever CARW 2007 event last year.
