King Pin Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

GeoRaptor: After 12 years, I am archiving this cache. The cache container is missing. I hiked to the cache site yesterday and came in from the East along the National trail and cut over to the cache site. It wasn't an easy hike, but it was the type of hike I expected when I placed this cache. I should have moved this cache when the new homes were built just West of the cache site. The cache was a Bowling pin that had been hollowed out to hold a small container for the log. I guess someone felt they needed it more than the Geocaching community. Maybe one day I will place a King Pin 2. Just not in this area.

Geocache Description:

Cache is on one of the less used trails in South Mountain Park. Bring plenty of water during the summer months.

There are several ways to get to this cache. I came from the East and started at 15 Ave. and Chandler Blvd. I followed the new trail around the hill (not up). At coordinates N33 18.677 W112 06.084 the trail splits and you will need to proceed West. Follow this trail the additional 2 miles to the cache. Cache will be within 50 feet of the trail. Total round trip hike for me was 5.7 miles.
This isn't the shortest way to this cache, but it is the best hike.
