Geneva is an unincorporated community located in the northwest part of Allen County. The town of Geneva was founded in the summer of 1857. There were big expectations for the community due to fertile prairie land as well as heavy timber along the stream banks. There were a projected number of approximately 300 families expected to settle in this community. The community also had plans to have a non-sectarian college and academy. As it turned out, not even 1/4 of the projected 300 families came to the community and those who did were poor. Through the lack of money and settlement, the college was not built. Geneva continued as a small unincorporated community and by 1869, it contained two stores, one blacksmith shop, a wagon shop, a hotel, a Congregational Church built of stone (the first church in Allen County) and an academy.
After grabbing the cache, head into the area where the town used to be by heading north to the next intersection and then turning west. The houses are pretty spread out and we are unsure of where some of the structures used to be.
