São Barão - Alentejo - Final Mystery Cache

Planícies sem fim queimadas pelo sol impõem um ritmo lento e compassado. É o nosso Alentejo.

No Norte Alentejano, as serras começam a dar lugar às planícies. Andando para Sul, o interior mostra-nos as searas douradas ondulando ao vento, onde ao longe se deixam avistar algumas serras. Chegados ao litoral, somos deslumbrados por praias agrestes de uma beleza selvagem, lagoas verdejantes e rios que correm para a liberdade.

O passado está sempre presente no Alentejo, desde a pré-história, passando pelo Império Romano, pela ocupação Árabe e pelos Castelos Medievais, os vestígios do passado são incontornáveis para o visitante, oferecendo uma verdadeira viagem no tempo.

Mas, nem só do espírito vive o viajante, e quando o apetite se faz sentir, o Alentejo tem muito para oferecer. Neste capítulo a criatividade dos Alentejanos não tem limite. Umas entradas com um extraordinário queijo de Serpa ou de Nisa ou presunto de Barrancos acompanhado com um pão de Mértola, siga pela Sopa de Cação ou pelo Gaspacho, isto sem falar na Açorda Alentejana nem num peixe fresco grelhado acabado de pescar nas arribas rochosas da Costa Vicentina, continue com o Ensopado de Borrego ou com as Migas de Espargos com carne de porco, momento certo para provar um tinto de Borba, Redondo, Reguengos ou Vidigueira. Para terminar, os doces conventuais, que tal uma Sericaia, umas Trouxas-de-ovos ou um Toucinho Rançoso.

Se gosta de passear pela natureza, passeie a pé pelo verde das Serras d’ Ossa, Portel ou Grândola. Visite o Parque Natural da Serra de S. Mamede onde as paisagens do Sul encontram as do Norte e descubra o mais Alto Alentejo. No litoral, faça uma viagem inesquecível entre os golfinhos do estuário do Sado ou delicie-se com a quietude das praias quase desertas do Sudoeste.

Endless and sun burned plains set a slow and steady rhythm. It's our Alentejo.

In the Northern Alentejo, the mountains are replaced by plains. As further as you head South you'll see the golden corn fields waving on the wind and at distance some shy mountains. As soon as we reach the shore we're amazed by wild and beautiful beaches, green lagoons and rivers that flow for the ocean's freedom.

The past is something that is always present in Alentejo. From the Roman Empire, the Muslim occupation and the Medieval Castles, the past remains are something impossible to avoid by the visitors, to whom is offered a real time travel.

But, not only of the spirit the travellers can live, and when the appetite makes it feel, the Alentejo has a lot to offer. In that chapter Alentejo people's creativity knows no limit. As starter an extraordinary cheese from Serpa or Nisa or even a piece of ham from Barrancos with some bread from Mértola. After that, a squalus soup or a cold tomato soup, this without speaking in the Alentejo Bread-Soup or a grilled fish just caught at the rocky cliffs of Vicentine Coast. After that continue with a Ham ragout or some bread soup with asparagus with pork meat, right moment to taste some Borba, Redondo, Reguengos or Vidigueira red wine. To finish, the conventual deserts. What about a "Sericaia", some "Trouxas-de-ovos" or a "Toucinho Rançoso".

If you like to walk trough the Nature, take a walk by Ossa, Portel or Grândola mountains ranges. Visit the S. Mamede Natural Park where the South landscape meet the Northern and discover the highest Alentejo. Close to the shore make an unforgetTABLE travel with the dolphins in the Sado's estuary or delight yourself with the Northwest almost deserted beaches.

Este projecto, nasceu da conjugação dos esforços de vários geocachers Alentejanos que resolveram divulgar o “seu” Alentejo.
O projecto ALENTEJO, consta de uma série de caches temáticas espalhadas pela maior região do país e de uma cache mistério final a que só será possível aceder depois de visitar as outras.
Aproveite estas caches, não só para descobrir os temas referidos, mas também para conhecer melhor o Alentejo.

THE PROJECT ALENTEJO

This Project was born with the joined efforts of some Geocachers from Alentejo that decided to divulge "their" Alentejo.
The Project ALENTEJO, is formed by a group of themed geocaches hidden all over the countries' larger region and a final geocache that you'll only be able to find after visiting all the others.
Use this caches, not only to know more about the themes but also to know better the Alentejo.\

CACHE FINAL

Quem viaja de Mértola para Beja, um pouco antes de chegar a Alcaria Ruiva, existe um pequeno casario bem alentejano que passa, injustamente, despercebido – a Corte da Velha.

É na Corte da Velha que iniciamos a nossa aventura em direcção aos céus numa viajem de alguns quilómetros com paisagens arrebatadoras de cortar a respiração. Parem, observem e sintam nos vossos olhos o Alentejo longínquo com o serpentear do Oeiras aos nossos pés.

No final do nosso percurso pela Serra de São Barão, iremos encontrar uma Ermida com o mesmo nome no topo dum cabeço aplanado. Neste local, outrora um importante santuário, realizaram-se durante séculos concorridas romarias. Segundo a lenda e a tradição de muitos séculos atrás, São Barão nasceu e fez-se santo em Mértola. Depois rumou para a Serra, que hoje detém o seu nome, onde viveu e morreu. Acerca deste santo diz-se que optou pela vida eremítica, vivendo numa gruta, junto a uma fonte, a qual lhe dava água e lhe fornecia a erva da qual se alimentava. Os seus seguidores, sabendo da sua morte, dirigiram-se à gruta onde vivia e no mesmo local ergueram-lhe uma ermida. A tradição sempre lhe atribuiu poderes milagrosos sobre as mulheres inférteis.

O edifício hoje existente, recuperado em 2001, é composto por uma nave e capela-mor justaposta, ambas abobadadas, uma sacristia e duas outras dependências, destinadas ao apoio aos romeiros e de serventia para os festejos do santo. Pelas características arquitectónicas de todo o conjunto, pode afirmar-se que se trata de um edifício erguido de raiz, nos finais do século XVII ou início da centúria seguinte.

Dizem os mais antigos que do alto de São Barão se avista o Algarve e Mourão! É certo que tal não passa de um enorme exagero popular, mas com este dizer, julgamos que seja o local apropriado para colocar a cache final do Alentejo!

FINAL CACHE

For those who travel from Mértola of Beja, a little bit before you reach Alcaria Ruiva there, is a typical small town from Alentejo - the Corte da Velha (Court of the Old Woman).

It’s at Corte da Velha that we’ll start our adventure towards the heavens on a trip of a few amazing kilometers with breathtaking. Stop, observe and feel in your eyes the distant Alentejo with the crawler of Oeiras on your feet.

At the end of our trip along the Sierra de São Barão, we will find a chapel with the same name at the top of a plain hill. In this place, important shrine in the past, took place for centuries festivities searched for a lot of people. According to legend and tradition of many centuries ago, São Barão was born and has converted to saint in Mértola. After that, he moved to the mountain, which now holds his name, where he lived and died. About this saint, it looks like that he have opted for eremitic life, living in a cave, next to a fountain, which gave him water and the grass on which is fed. Their followers, knowing of his death, addressed to the cave where he lived in the same place and built him a chapel. The tradition always gave it miraculous powers on infertile women.

The existing building today, recovered in 2001, consists of a nave and chapel-mor juxtaposed a sacristy and two other addictions, designed to support and serving pilgrims to celebrate the saint. For the architectural features of the whole, it can be stated that this is a building built from scratch, at the end of the seventeenth century or beginning of next century.

Says the oldest people that form the top of São Barão you will see Algarve and Mourão! Certainly, this is a huge popular exaggeration, but with this, we think that this the appropriate place to put the final cache of Alentejo!

MUITO IMPORTANTE

• Ter um registo “Found” ou “Not Found” válido em todas as restantes caches do Projecto Alentejo com data igual ou inferior à data em que encontram esta cache.
• No caso do registo ser “Not Found”, terão de fazer prova que estiveram no local da cache que não encontram.
• O registo físico (escrito no livro de registo “log book” existente no contentor da cache) terá de ter uma data igual ou superior a qualquer um dos logs das restantes caches do projecto Alentejo.
• Terão de colocar no registo desta cache os links para os logs das restantes caches do “Projecto Alentejo”

• [A] is the first digit of the last three digits of latitude from the final coordinates of the cache Cortiça
• [K] is the first digit of the last three digits of longitude from the final coordinates of the cache Cortiça
• [C] is the second digit of the last three digits of latitude from the final coordinates of the cache O Porco
• [D] is the second digit of the last three digits of longitude from the final coordinates of the cache O Porco
• [E] is the third digit of the last three digits of latitude from the final coordinates of the cache Frescos
• [F] is the third digit of the last three digits of longitude from the final coordinates of the cache Frescos

VERY IMPORTANT

• Having a valid "Found" or "Not Found" log in all the remain caches from the Project of Alentejo with its date less or equal of the date on which you claim to find this cache.
• In case of a "Not Found" log, you must prove that you were in the place of the cache you did not find.
• The physical log (written in the logbook existing in the cache container) must have its date equal or inferior from all the logs of remaining caches of the project Alentejo.
