Geocache Description:

Tranquil Trail View

A plastic ammo can hidden just off the trail in Trail View State Park

I walked through this section of Trail View State Park today with the objective of finding a spot to hide my first cache.  It felt very tranquil as I came through this area. I was amazed by the size and beauty of some of the trees that I passed along the way. This is a beautiful park and the cache is hidden just off the trail. As you enter trail head by the parking lot, be sure to take the foot trail rather than the bike trail. It will be a lot safer for you that way. Since the cache is so close to the trail, please hide it better than you found it (as usual) and watch out for muggles that might be coming “around the bend”.

The cache includes a number of Geocaching trade items that I’ve accumulated since I began caching in 2006.  It also includes a $10 Dunkin' Donuts Gift Card as a “First to Find” prize.

A bit about Trail View State Park (from the NYS Parks Website):

Trail View is a 400-acre, 7.4-mile linear park that serves as a link along the Nassau/Suffolk Greenbelt Trail that extends from Cold Spring Harbor State Park on the north shore of Suffolk County to Bethpage State Park, and eventually to the south shore of Nassau County.

New YorkState obtained the land in the 1960s intending to use it as a parkway connecting Caumsett State Historic Park to Bethpage State Park. In the summer of 2002, the property was dedicated as a state park, offering a variety of recreational opportunities including trails for hiking and bicycling on its hilly terrain and open fields.

Trail View encompasses a variety of habitats and undeveloped natural resources such as hardwood forests, marshes and succession fields with elevations ranging from 60 to 300 feet above sea level. The park is a favorite spot for birdwatchers year-round, most especially--because it lies on the Atlantic flyway--during the spring and fall bird migrations.

On a limited basis, visitors can ride horseback or cross-county ski.
