The coordinates listed will bring you somewhere near the beginning point in the Seneca Tract park for another puzzle cache for the puzzle challenged! The “VanDuck Rules” for our puzzle caches are that they must be solvable while you sit in your car at the parking coordinates (listed below). Once you have determined the final coordinates, expect an easy hike through a beautiful woodland park to find an ammo can stocked with items somewhat related to the cache theme. The total round trip distance is about one mile, with light bushwhacking for about 130 feet off the trail to the cache; and we promise – no rock climbing!
(Park at north end of Seneca Road: N 39° 03.071; W 077° 20.059. Enter trail system to right of yellow metal gate and bear left at first trail intersection, after "stick fence" to go northbound on trail. At a large trail intersection farther on, you'll see a double-trunked tree with an old X cut into it; bear left onto the "upland" trail here.)
Congratulations to The First Noel for the first-to-find-honor!
NOTE: PARK OPEN DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS ONLY!
DRAMA QUEEN
Mr. and Mrs. North were so pleased when their daughter Kitty, youngest of their three children, got the role of Marian the Librarian in the high school musical, “The Music Man.” Nine years of dance and singing lessons were finally paying off! She would have so much fun with all her friends in the show, and the handsome Guy who also had a starring role as Professor Harold Hill.
Kitty’s last geometry test score had been a zero, but she promised to bring up her grades by studying faithfully during the three-hour rehearsals after school. She also promised to pay the $44 costume fee from her babysitting profits! Both her parents attended the Drama Boosters meeting and signed up to help with the show preparations. It would be hard to show up at the school five Saturdays in a row, but parents were needed to build the set and help with costumes.
Soon the whole family seemed to be spending every free moment working on the show or helping Kitty with her lines. Luckily, there were only a few tearful meltdowns as opening night approached! Extra music rehearsals were scheduled for Saturday mornings as Ms. West, the band director, prepared the band students for the musical. Nothing could be better than to add one more player to “76 Trombones” so her favorite nephew Pete could have a part in the performance.
The week before the show, the nineteen members of the high school Drama Club distributed posters throughout the town. They were hoping for a great turnout on each of the nights of the musical. Finally it was Opening Night - and what a crowd – the ticket takers counted 858 seats sold at the door. The proud parents filled the rows with video camera equipment and watched every minute of the show, hardly daring to blink their eyes. Who knew which child might be the next Broadway sensation! Perhaps there might even be a talent scout hidden somewhere in the auditorium to cache the show!
Kitty cried when the musical’s run was finally over. This was one of the high points of her school career, and she couldn’t help but dream of a life on stage. It was hard to come back to reality after all the excitement. The family celebrated by taking the whole family out geocaching in the woods!
