Geocache Description:

Brighton and Hove Monopoly Series

I have adopted this geocache from brightonrob, who has (regretfully) now moved away from the area. Hopefully I can fulfill his trust in me taking over some of his caches.

In 1786 the future King George IV purchased a farmhouse on the outside (!) of Brighton which he then had converted, over time, into his seaside residence. What we see today is the second re-building, carried out from 1815 to 1822, by John Nash and his extravagant and exotic Indian design has since become synonymous with Brighton itself.

Queen Victoria found the Pavilion too small and too public, Brighton having expanded rapidly beyond the house, and in 1850 it was sold to the then town of Brighton for £53,000.

Part of a series of caches around Brighton and Hove based on the Brighton and Hove Monopoly board.

Please note: This is not a cache and dash. access is not available from the main road but through the Pavilion gardens, which is prettier anyway!

This is a very busy place...EXTREME CAUTION!!
