How Geocaching Works
This is in celebration of my #1000 cache found. This cache is a seed cache provided during the WWFM…BLOODLUST STYLE event in November ’07. So I guess you can say this is a BLOODLUST seedling…”the best type to have.” How does one get 1000 caches within their first year of caching? Here’s how the story goes:
I bought my GPS while attending the college football national championship game (Ohio State vs. Florida) in January of ’07 in Phoenix, Arizona…let’s not talk about the game. My primary purpose was for hunting and fishing. Well after I purchased it, I began the sport of geocaching. I lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa from January through April. During that time I found all the traditional caches in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area. Then I was temporarily asked to go to the Quad Cities during May and June. My family remained in Cedar Falls and I came back on weekends, so two months of caching in that town and I had found all the traditional caches there. Then in July I was permanently relocated to Des Moines, Iowa where another fresh crop of caches awaited me.
Here are the highlights of my first year (2007) of geocaching:
• Over 1000 caches found
• Found caches in 13 states ( I was in two other states Arizona and Florida but did not cache in them)
• Co-hosted an event with BearGrylls and bear trax
• Placed 15 caches
• 185 consecutive days of caching
• 76 FTF’s
• Meeting great people like BearGrylls, bear trax, BLOODLUST, joestephkids, The NVG and many others.
Here are my Geocaching goals for 2008:
• Find the traditional caches in the Des Moines metro area
• Find in another 5 states (I know Louisiana [January Buckeye National Championship] and California [Buckeyes vs. USC in September] will be two states for sure. I’m guessing with kids soccer Nebraska will happen also.
