Like many cachers, I am a bit of a numbers nut. I liked the idea of the challenge: to find caches, all within one calendar day, where the combined Difficulty and Terrain stars add up to a minimum of 100. You might call this your Star Search day. This can be done in a minimum of ten caches (good luck with that). (10 caches rated as 5/5 star. 5 stars x 20 = 100 stars) It can also be accomplished with exactly 50 caches at the other extreme. (50 caches rated as 1/1 star. 1 star x 100 = 100 stars) So all you have to do is find between 10 and 50 caches within one calendar day where their combined stars equal or exceed 100 stars!! That's not so hard. Or is it? I am guessing it will take around 25 to 35 caches.
A sub-challenge would be to see how few caches it took for you to get your 100 stars. How do you figure this out? Lets use this cache as an example: 100 Stars Challenge - Difficulty: Terrain: = 3.5 Stars for Difficulty + 1.5 Stars for Terrain 3.5 + 1.5 = 5 Stars for thisexample cache!!
The Rules of this Challenge:
- All of your finds must be found on the same calendar day.
- You must list your qualifying caches in a log on this cache page, with Cache name, GCXXX, Difficulty Rating, and Terrain Rating. And tally the sum of those stars at the bottom.
- The sum of all stars, Difficulty/Terrain, must equal or exceed 100 stars. • You can use any type of Groundspeak-listed cache finds, including eventcaches, virtuals and earthcaches.
- Star values are to becalculated as of the day of your find. Changes in star value, either up or down, will not effect your final star count. (Changes to star ratings are rare but it does happen)
- Find enough caches in one calendar day where their combined Difficulty and Terrain star ratings add up to a minimum of 100 stars.
- Caches must be found from April 7, 2010 or after to qualify for this find.
- Your welcome to use this cache for 5 of your stars as long as it is found on the same day as your other 95 stars.
Logging Requirements:
- To log a “Found it” for this cache, in addition to finding the cache and signing the logbook, you must have: Found enough caches in one calendar day where the combined Difficulty and Terrain star ratings add up to a minimum of 100 stars. You do not need to find the final the same day you qualify.
