Longhua Martyrs' Cemetery Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

pinatl: This cache has apparently disappeared (the last five geocachers who looked for it didn't find it), and I will have no opportunity to travel to Shanghai in the near future to replace it (I currently live in France). I tried to find somebody to adopt it, but I didn't succeed, and therefore I archive the cache, and I'll probably place another one in Longhua Martyrs' Cemetery next time I visit this park, as it is a very nice place.
Anyway, this cache had a long life as it was initially placed in February 2007, exactly 15 years ago...

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Longhua Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery.

Longhua, a tourist resort, is famous for the ancient Longhua Temple, Longhua Pagoda, the Evening Bell-Striking Ceremony and the peach blossoms. First built in 242 AD (in the period of the Three Kingdoms), Longhua Temple is the oldest temple in Shanghai with a long history of over 1700 years. Destroyed by wars for several times, most of the buildings in the temple were reconstructed in the Qing Dynasty. Besides, the temple is the largest temple in Shanghai. The Sutras Keeping Hall (Cangjinglou) keeps the three treasures of the temple including the Dazang sutras, the gold seals and the Buddhist statues. This cache is located in the Longhua Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery, which is adjacent to Longhua Temple. It used to be the site of the Song-hu Security Headquarters of the Kuomintang. At that time there was also a prison in the area where many communist revolutionaries were imprisoned and many of them even killed during China's civil wars (1927-1941, 1945-1949). Now it is the resting place for more than 500 martyrs who died for the revolution against the Kuomintang as well as those who were killed during the Anti-Japanese War. In July 1995 it was opened to the public to commemorate these heroes of New China and has become one of the most important patriotic educational bases of Shanghai.
