Geocache Description:

I-35W Mississippi River bridge

Cache IS at the listed coordinates.

See specific logging requirements below!

The I-35W Mississippi River bridge was an eight-lane, 1,907 feet (581 m) steel truss arch bridge that carried Interstate 35W across the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, MN.

At 6:05 pm on Wednesday, August 1, 2007, during the evening rush hour, the main spans of the bridge collapsed, falling into the river and its banks.

The replacement of the collapsed I-35W Mississippi River bridge will cross the Mississippi River at the same location as the original bridge, and will carry north-south traffic on Interstate Highway 35W. It is under construction on an accelerated schedule, due to the highway's function as a vital link for carrying commuters and truck freight. Mn/DOT announced on September 19, 2007 that Flatiron Constructors and Manson Construction Company will build the replacement bridge for USD $234 million, to be completed no later than December 24, 2008.

More information, pictures, and video of the bridge collapse can be found on Wikipedia "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-35W_Mississippi_River_bridge">here.

LOGGING REQUIREMENTS

The purpose of this cache is to create a picture story of the rebuilding of the 35W bridge. In order to log this cache you must:

1. Bring a digital camera with you!
2. Park near the listed coordinates. Street parking is available.
3. Walk to the Picture Location waypoint listed below. You should be standing at Reserved Parking Spot #23 Do NOT park here! It's private parking!
4. Take two pictures. One facing across the river (north) and one facing toward the city (south). I took two today so you can use them as an example.
5. Now walk back to the listed coordinates and find the cache. There is obvious foot traffic in the area so please, please, please make sure you rehide the cache very well so it will last. It's a small, silver bison tube hanging on the fence, nestled in the wood.
6. Your log entry MUST contain two pictures of the bridge construction. You can not reuse old pictures.

The cache owner reserves the right to delete any logs that don't follow the specific logging requirements or that have reused pictures.
