This is the 12th in my series of hides near fire lookouts. Here you will find Mount Harris Lookout, an Oregon Department of Forestry tower, elevation 5357'.
Established in 1930 as a detection point, the first structures included a tower of unknown type and a cupola cabin on the south side of the summit near the present-day radio repeater buildings. The current tower, built in 1957, is a 40' wooden superstructure with live-in cabin on top, and has not been used for many years. A victim of vandalism, all of the windows have been broken or shot out. There is no public access up the tower. It is currently being used to support several microwave dishes.
A high clearance vehicle is mandatory to get up the mountain, 4WD is also a bonus. This is a great companion cache to the existing Rocks on Harris geocache.
You are seeking a camoed lock-n-lock container with logbook, writing instrument and a few trading items.
