This cache is half way up Mailbox Peak. The trail is steep,
climbing more than 4000 feet in three miles on its way to the
summit. For this cache, you'll only be climbing half of that. You
should, of course, continue to the summit as the views are
fantastic.
Mailbox Peak, located between the Snoqualmie middle fork and south
fork drainages, is the North-West end of a range that includes
Mount Defiance, Bandera Mountain, and Granite Mountain.
To get there, drive Interstate 90 and get off on Exit 34 (Edgewick
Road), turn left, pass the Seattle East Auto Truck Plaza and turn
right on Middle Fork Road. The road splits at the end of the
pavement and rejoins at Valley Camp (2.1 miles from the turn onto
the Middle Fork). Three-tenths of a mile further look for three
roads off to your right. The middle road (gated) is the beginning
of the hike. You'll find plenty of room to park.
The cache is hidden just a little ways off trail in a typical
Northwest location. You are looking for a medium lock-n-lock.
This is an official
MidMountain Mountaineers cache. We are a loose collection of
hikers/cachers who believe the journey is more important than
the summit. Enjoy our caches about half way
up! |
