Geocache Description:

Our first cache near our favourite pitch and putt course, more to come hopefully.

Country Park Entrance

When we moved to the UK, this was the first park we discovered. Croydon Council has done a nice job here, the children's playground is nice and the nearby toilets are clean. Ample parking available at the entrance coordinates. A short walk across the park takes you to a duck pond. A separate picnic area is also available.

South Norwood Country Park is a park in South Norwood, close to Elmers End station, mainly in the London Borough of Croydon. It is a 47 hectare (116 acre) green space which opened in 1989. The park occupies a mix of countryside and parkland, and land formerly used for sewage farms serving the growing London population.

Croydon Sports Arena, the home of Croydon F.C., is located on the south-eastern edge of the park.

With a wide range of different habitats, the country park is a haven for wildlife and an important site for nature conservation. It is a Local Nature Reserve.

Many wetlands and ponds in Britain have become polluted or have disappeared, leaving the plants and animals that like wet conditions with fewer places to live. The Dragonfly Pond was built to encourage dragonflies and damselflies, and many other plants and animals such as frogs, toads and newts can be found there too. In the summer months the blue and green Emperor Dragonfly, the largest dragonfly in Britain can be found there.

South Norwood Country Park has an excellent bird record with over 100 different species being sighted each year. The large wetlands in particular attract a wide variety of birds.

Thanks for Croydon Council Parks team for giving us permission to place the cache in the park! Please stick to the footpaths, avoid trampling the vegetation and don't disturb the bird feeders.

To find the cache you will need to go to N 51 23.(A+D)(D)(C-D) W 000 03.(B)(E-B)(A-D), where:

is the number of letters in the last word on the table at the starting coordinates
B is the sixth number of the phone number of the Pitch & Putt course (020 86B5 3586)
C is the total number of carvings minus the number of carvings depicting animals on the nearby totem pole
D is at waypoint two, look for the following on the post: BT 9L 9* 2I, D=*
E is the number on the round plaque at waypoint three.
Edit: Moved the description of D and E from the waypoint description to the main one, as handheld GPSes do not display them apparently. Thanks for BaSHful for bringing this to our attention and sorry about the confusion.

Congrats to bond2468 for FTF!
