I came across this spot while I was out riding my new bike(!!) and
thought is would be ideal for a cache. I did consider making it
into a multi by getting you to park at N51°42.361', W000°20.175'
and then walking down the well signposted river trail but decided
our older cachers might not appreciate the walk. Mind you it does
make a very nice bike ride from there so if you are into that kind
of thing why not try it? Just along Smug Oak Lane is the Moor Mill
Pub/Restaurant which caters for families.
For the lazier cachers amongst us I suggest parking in School
Lane, Bricket Wood near N51°41.602', W000°21.801' These
co-ordinates are taken from Memory Map as tree cover is quite thick
here. Just down the lane is The Old Fox pub and Hornet's Hide 7 -
Fox's Burrow cache. Bricket Wood village also has a couple of nice
pubs.
Take the track marked "Private" but don't worry, that only
applies to cars. It is a public bridleway and pedestrians and
cyclists have access. At the bottom of the track where it forks
take the signposted track to the left of Munden House to the cache
site.
The cache is a standard Tupperware box and as it has no outer
plastic bag (GAGB guidelines please note!) make sure you carefully
replace the lid to keep out the moisture. The contents are mainly
aimed at the more mature cacher although there is nothing untoward
in it. It's just that I was right out of small toys etc. For any
golfers who find it quickly enough I have enclosed two £15 tickets
to the Woburn Senior Masters golf tournament in October 2003.
The cache site can be very busy in summer as it is a lovely spot
for a picnic/fishing/paddling etc. so try and be discrete. If you
have trouble working out where it is (it cannot be seen) the
spoiler is fairly specific.
