Geocache Description:

The original VFD was adopted by Fireman78 from Kirk, Clayann & Dharma TWD. Ownership passed to zoom on 4/6/06 and then to msmosier on 5/18/2010. Cache Coords have been slightly changed as of 11/08/05. In/near town of WHITE ROCK. Terrain listing is for last section.. most of hike is level.

Built on the lava flows of one of the largest volcanos in the world. Los Alamos County is a field day location for many a geologist who are interested in volcanos "Volcanologist". This cache is located in an ammo can in a 3,000,000-year-old lava bed. Park at 35' 48.753 106' 11.959. From here it is a 0.65 mile trip to the cache. There may be another spot or two to start from , but this is my recommendation. The last 40-50 feet or so to the cache will require some bouldering.
This area is very beautiful, peaceful and HOT in the summer. Mostly level hiking until the last part. Very wonderful views of the river valley. Snakes, hawks, chipmunks, and lizards all frequent the area.
