Do you know the cradle of the professional baseball of Japan?
It is an old story for 80 years or more.
Shoriki, owner of YOMIURI SHINBUN, invited American major league players,Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmy Fox, and numerous other American stars to Japan in 1934.
And, American stars were done the friendly match between Japanese college all-stars.Not surprisingly, the Americans won all seventeen games they played.
But Shoriki was surprised at the height of the concern in Japan.
And he established Japan's first professional team, the Great Tokyo baseball club, that based on Japanese college all-stars.
Here is a place where Japanese players worked hard at the practice before
the game.
To our regret, ballpark is not here now.

日本のプロ野球の始まりをご存知ですか？
８０年余り昔のことです。
１９３４年、読売新聞のオーナー正力 氏はベイブ・ルース、ルー・ゲーリッグ、ジミー・フォックスといったメジャーリーグの名選手たちを、日本に招待しました。
そしてアメリカのスターは、日本の大学選抜チームと親善試合行いました。当然、アメリカ側が１７戦全勝しました。
しかし正力氏は日本での関心の高さに驚きました。そこで彼は大学選抜チームを元に、日本最初のプロ野球チーム 大東京野球倶楽部を設立したのです。そしてここはまさしくその日本の選手が、試合の前に練習に励んだ地なのです。
残念なことに今ここには野球場はありません。薔薇園と記念碑があるだけです。
すぐ裏にはラムサール条約に指定された谷津干潟があります。
