Geocache Description:

This is a 6 part Self-Guided Tour of Carlsbad’s Historic Sites. The tour originated from a brochure published by the City of Carlsbad. The brochure is available at the 2 Carlsbad Public Libraries. This brochure may be helpful in finding more historical information about the clues for this cache, but it is not necessary to find the cache. This tour does not include all the points from the brochure. This cache is meant to be enjoyed with a comfortable 1-mile walk or drive around town. Enjoy!

Simply solve the questions to get to the next point and it will eventually lead you to the cache. The first point above is a starting point for your tour. This is the site of the Original Carlsbad Train Depot. Now it is the Carlsbad Welcome center. You can park north or south of the building in free parking spots.

WP1. When was this building built? 18F7

WP2. Now travel to State Street. This is the site of the South Coast Land Co. Look for a plaque. When was this building likely built? XDXX

WP3. Take a shortcut through the current train station across the train tracks to a statue. This is the site of Frazier's Well/ Alt Karlsbad. John Frazier first tapped this well in 1883, an event that soon led to stops by train passengers to drink this water, rumored to have miraculous curative powers. E= # of wells he drilled + the last number of the year he was born.

WP4. This is the site of the Red Apple Inn, originally built in 1927. In 1936, it was bought and leased by the Army and Navy Academy. The Academy now covers 16 acres. From the sidewalk, you can see a Stone / concrete memorial sign. What is the year of the Warriors class that dedicated this memorial? 198A

WP5. This is a home originally built in 1887. There is a special item here at the waypoint. Look for a plaque. What would be a good year to come back to this spot? 2XXB

WP6. Last is St. Michael’s Episcopal Church built in 1894, then moved here in 1959. Look for a Celtic Cross. On the ground is a plaque with the birth and death dates of a woman named Ione. She was born 19CX
