Up River Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Nikon-ing: Wow. The summer rains, floods and hurricanes really took a toll on this trail. KristinewithaK, Sadie the geopup and I took a walk today and found that the Elephant Swamp rails-to-trails trail was cut in half by the flood right at this cache. We didn't have time to check on all our caches, but this one is definitely gone...the ground it was planted on is gone! Thanks to all who stopped by.

Geocache Description:

We go past this fire house often and noticed joggers running through the parking lot and behind the building. We decided to explore the area and found an old railbed/hiking trail.

We placed 3 caches along this trail which runs straight through the county line, from the Salem County Monroeville Volunteer Fire Dept to Elephant Swamp on Elk Road (Rt 538) in Gloucester County. One of RumGirl’s caches (GC18TYW) is nearer the Elk Road end.

Total distance is 1.65 miles from parking lot to parking lot. It’s an easy trail for walking or biking, with no bushwhacking or swamping necessary. Good for the kids if they don’t mind the distance and great for the dogs. Use stealth when necessary and replace better than found.

This one’s off the trail a bit and there is a slight slope to navigate. Numbers were not tight, so I’ve increased the difficulty a little. I just couldn’t get a good lock in this location. Let me know what you get.

Nice non-trackable FTF coin for the first one there. Good luck!

Congrats to the 'cycles - Michael & Susan - for FTF!
