At The Big Idea exhibition centre at Irvine Harbourside.
But don’t be fooled, because of the closure of the exhibition a few years ago the bridge has remained open and that means no pedestrian access to the exhibition centre. This cache is on the other side of the River Irvine, on the Ardeer Peninsular.
To access the cache you need to go north towards the “3 toons” and go to Ardeer Beach at the bottom end of Stevenston.
Parking is available at Stevenston Point and the cache is about a 4km walk south towards Irvine. The 8km round trip took me 90mins, but I’m no spring chicken…so allow up to 2 hours.
Be sure to nab Big Rab GC1MEWY on the way along the beach.
The beach is easily walked at all times of the tide, but in severe weather and high tides you may have to use caution and postpone.
A pretty good walk and a different view of Irvine’s Harbourside await the intrepid geo-cacher. Take time to have a wander around the Big Idea building, pretty impressive structure, just a shame its lying empty.
The cache is hidden close to the bridge and near the path.
