Geocache Description:

Will take a few hours (5-6 miles RT) - do it on a cool day.

This beautiful area contains a monument to the Danielson family, who sold all of Rancho Sierra Vista (NPS) and much of Pt.Mugu State Park to public agencies at reduced prices so they could be public parkland. Rancho was the first parcel purchased for the Santa Monica Mts National Rec Area in 1980, and literally, bulldozers were at the gate, ready to build 800 homes here, when it was acquired by the NPS at the 11th hour.

A well-planned day could result in at least 20 other cache finds nearby though distances are deceiving as vegetation is thick, hillsides steep and rocky with lots of poison oak.

Closest places to start are the south (deadend) of Wendy Dr at Potrero or the Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa main parking lot off Lynn Rd and Via Goleta, all in Newbury Park off the 101 Fwy. After you find this cache, continue on .2 mile to the monument at 34 08 132, 118 57 091, the old cabin foundation. Take plenty of water. Enjoy the native American cultural center open on weekends at Satwiwa. No dogs or bikes in this state park wilderness.

Trail/road all the way - mostly uphill. Take a Pt Mugu St Pk trail map if you're unfamiliar with the area as there are few signs; this is known as the "old cabin site trail" beyond the waterfall.
