Frogger - Video Game Classic Series South Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

RetiredGuy: Farewell Florida

Dear Fellow Geocachers,

In 2011, I created the Video Game Classic Series South to celebrate video games from the 1970’s and 1980’s. The series grew to having 50 caches with container, location, or puzzle connected to the classic video games. Having almost all of the containers be themed meant that maintaining them has been difficult but well worth it. The series has had 5700 cache finds by 1100 different geocachers. I have also maintained a leaderboard of cachers’ progress in the series, now with fourteen cachers having found all 50 caches.

In March of 2020, my wife and I moved back to Boston to be near our first grandchild and I can no longer maintain the caches. I will be archiving them when they go missing or have serious issues. While you can still access the leaderboard by clicking on this message, all 50 caches will no longer be available to find.

I deeply enjoyed the Florida geocaching community. Should you make it to Boston, feel free to look up my caches or me while you are in the area.
Best regards and keep on cachin’
Doug

Geocache Description:

You are looking for a frog named Frogger who is trying to figure out how to get across four lanes of speeding highway traffic without getting squished.

Frogger was a 1981 arcade game developed by Konami, and licensed for worldwide distribution by Sega/Gremlin. The object of the game was to direct frogs to their homes one by one. To do this, each frog had to avoid cars while crossing a busy highway and then navigate a river full of hazards.

Finding the location of our hero, Frogger, you must play the Frog puzzle below. It will give you the location of Frogger at North 27° 45.AB West C° D.E where:
A is the number of moves necessary to solve the frog puzzle when there are 2 frogs on each side of the pond.
B is the number of moves necessary to solve the frog puzzle when there are 3 frogs on each side of the pond.
C is the number of moves necessary to solve the frog puzzle when there are 8 frogs on each side of the pond.
D is the number of moves necessary to solve the frog puzzle when there are 4 frogs on each side of the pond.
E is the number of moves necessary to solve the frog puzzle when there are 18 frogs on each side of the pond.
The puzzle is set up to solve for answer B. Note that though the puzzle will allow you to set up the number of frogs to solve for A and D also, it doesn't allow for number of frogs needed for answers C and E, so you must extrapolate.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
