A while ago I was on a business trip in Austin TX. While downloading the caches in the area, I saw a series of caches that would take me to the areas of town that the local geocachers liked best. By searching for those caches, I was able to learn a lot about the city. I thought that was really neat so I decided I wanted to do something similar in Cedar Rapids.
To get the caches hidden in Austin, they were very organized with a contest and an event to award winners. Here is a link to the event if you want to see how it was done: Austin Event.
I finally realized I would never be that organized so I gave up on planning an event like theirs.
Instead of having an event and a contest, I decided to make it as easy as I can for others to hide their own cache - hopefully creating a series in this area.
There are no requirements for finding this cache - this is entirely optional. All you will find in the cache container is a bunch of other cache containers ready to hide. If you decide to take one of the containers, I ask that you hide it somewhere that highlights something about your city that you love. Please name it What I love about Cedar Rapids (or Marion, or Hiawatha, or....) by your geocaching name.
The reason I placed this cache along the Sac and Fox trail is because it is one of my favorite trails in the area. I placed it at this specific place on the trail because I like to watch the water flow by on the river, and I love to go watch the bald eagles in the wintertime in this area.
This area does flood sometimes - please don't go looking for the cache if it is under water.
