Geocache Description:

The site of a new Rotary park in Port Orchard.

Etta Turner

Congratulations to Lookout Lisa for being the 500th finder of this cache!!

The Etta Turner Waterfront Park is a joint venture between South Kitsap Rotary and the City of Port Orchard. The Park is on the shore of Blackjack Creek next to Westbay Center, stretching from Bay Street to Sinclair inlet. It includes a boardwalk, park benches, picnic tables and a lighthouse gazebo with a great view of the water and surrounding wild life. The Park was named to honor the life of Etta Turner, who was a South Kitsap High School student who participated in the local Rotary International Exchange Student Program.

More About Etta: After being selected to study in Bolivia as part of the Rotary foreign exchange program, Etta was tragically killed in a bus crash when the driver fell asleep in a Bolivian Mountain Range.

Etta was known for her sense of humor, adventurous spirit and for her love and dedication to people and animals. Stephanie Winslow, Etta’s science teacher at SKHS, said that Etta’s "inquisitive nature, wonder, and desire to learn made her an ideal student.” Etta’s spirit lives on through Etta Turner Projects, where friends of Etta have donated time and money to create a center in Bolivia for impoverished children and women in Etta’s name. The project offers food to poor children, a daycare and preschool, education and nutrition and reproductive health to the mothers, as well as, job training and household management training to improve the economic status of these mothers. Please visit ettaprojects.org for more information.

You are looking for a small, black container.

When you find it, PLEASE note the way it was hidden, and put it back EXACTLY the way you found it. The container needs to go back into its hiding place the way it is now. Otherwise, the next finder will have a devil of a time getting it out.

Bring your own writing utensil.

I highly recommend that this cache be hunted after business hours.

The coordinates were taken with a 20-foot EPE. Your mileage may vary.
