“INDIANA SPIRIT
QUEST”
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches
will take you to a number of small, rural, historic cemeteries in
central Indiana. There are some twists, however. Most of the caches
will be traditional, usually micros, but some may be may be
virtuals.
INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST
#6:
Limberlost Girl
Here is The Hopewell Cemetery in Lagro
Township, Wabash County, Indiana. If you like Pioneer Cemeteries,
this one is a really great one! It’s fairly big as rural
cemeteries go, has many very old and interesting monuments,
there’s an abandoned 1870’s era brick church, a classic
old outhouse (you will need to bring your own Sears& Roebuck
catalogue), a vintage antique bell.
In addition, this
cemetery has the distinct honor of being the final resting place of
a Civil War recipient of our nation's highest military decoration
for valor--The Congressional Medal of Honor
UPDATE: 4/4/05-- Army
Sgt. 1st Class Paul Ray Smith will be postumously awarded the Medal
of Honor today for saving several of his fellow soldiers and taking
out fifty enemy combatants with a machine gun before being killed
by a single rifle bullet. His is the first MOH awarded for action
in the IRAQ war and only the third since the end of the Vietnam
War....
SGT. SMITH
Also, a famous Hoosier’s family plot is
here. There are three bronze plaques here.
Read the Rock Plaque—Who is the famous
Hoosier that was born a quarter mile from here, whose family
arrived in a covered wagon?

Where did “Laddie” die? (He’s buried
here)
The cache container is a small plastic spice
bottle, so only room for small trade items.
