Geocache Description:

Just Another Day…
Oklahoma Fallen & Living Firefighters Memorial

This is a special memorial that really deserves to have attention drawn to it. It is located at the Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum in OKC and honors all Oklahoman firefighters, especially those who have given the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Their names are inscribed in granite on the Wall of Valor. Towering above the Wall is the eye-catching sculpture of two firefighters, titled ‘Just Another Day,’ by artist Shahla Rahimi Reynolds of OKC.

The memorial is open to the public (at no cost) between the hours of 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. daily.

If you are interested in seeing displays about firefighting, you should visit the nearby Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum, which is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays. (It is closed on all federal holidays.) There is a $5 admission charge for the museum ($4 for seniors, $2 for children ages 6-12).

The above coordinates will lead you to the memorial itself. To find the hidden cache, you will need to find the answers to the following questions, and then replace the letters (in the coordinates for the hidden cache) with the correct numbers.

A) the number of birds depicted on the Wall of Valor
B) the number of black granite panels on the Wall of Valor which do NOT have engraved inscriptions
C) the date inscribed on the flame sculpture (near its base): Feb. ____ 2000
D) the number of circular windows at the memorial

These are the coordinates for the hidden cache:
35 degrees 31.D7B
97 degrees 27.BAC

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * UPDATE * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Apr. 2014 - Yikes, we're a little late posting this (okay, a LOT late), but there IS an actual cache hidden at this site again... a heartfelt 'THANKS!' to hamquilter (summer 2011). So there's no need to email us answers, unless you just can't look for the hidden cache for some reason.

* * * * * * * * * * * CONSTRUCTION ALERT * * * * * * * * * * *
Jan. 2009 - Due to construction, the object on which the hidden cache was placed was moved (and the original cache was apparently lost in the process). A duplicate cache container was made at the same time as the first one, but we haven't located it yet... sorry. In the meantime, cachers can still log this as a find by e-mailing the correct answers to the puzzle.

The cache container is a camouflaged Altoids tin (standard size). With the logbook inside, there is very little space for other items, so if you choose to leave something, please be sure the container closes tightly, without strain. There is no pen or pencil, so you will need to bring your own, if you wish to sign the logbook. Besides the logbook, the cache’s original contents included three 2001 Heroes USA semi-postal stamps and three 2001 New York quarters. There is a picnic table nearby, where you can log your find. Unfortunately, there are also wasps in the vicinity, so keep an eye out for them!

The first half of this cache is handicap-accessible, but the second half is not. If you are only able to log the first half of the cache, just e-mail the answers to the four questions above, plus complete this quotation, found on the Wall of Valor:
Give them a crown of beauty ______________ ______ ____________ .

A heartfelt 'THANKS!' is given to OKThumper for finding the wandering cache (8-1-04), and also to Sweet T47 and Calamity Kane for their 'Mission Impossible' search (9-15-03). From the beginning, the hidden cache was rumored to have been stolen, because of its distressing tendency to move from its proper coordinates, but it was never actually taken until October 2006, when it wandered off on a brief vacation with a muggle. To avoid disappointing later cachers, please be especially careful when you put the cache back.
