Geocache Description:

The majority of the Fairgrounds facility is still closed due to the ongoing pandemic, but I have been given permission to enable the 5 caches on the front part of the property, including the 3 hidden in the Nature Center.

The front gate is now open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday.  The Nature Center gate will remain closed, but you can park outside the gate at the Horse Arena and walk in for those caches.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Happy caching!!!!

THE QUEEN BEE

The queen bee is the most important bee in a hive. The health of the hive depends a lot on her. Without her, a new generation of bees will not be born. There is generally only one queen per hive. The queen is the only bee with fully developed ovaries. She mates only once with several male (drone) bees, and will remain fertile for life. She lays up to 2000 eggs per day. Fertilized eggs become females (worker bees) and unfertilized eggs become males (drone bees). She can live for 3-5 years. When she dies or becomes unproductive, the other bees will "make" a new queen by selecting a young larva and feeding it a diet of "royal jelly". Royal Jelly is the substance that turns an ordinary bee into the Queen Bee. It is made of pollen which is chewed up and mixed with a chemical secreted from a gland in the nursing bee's heads. This "milk" or "pollen mush" is fed to all the larvae for the first two days of their lives. The larvae chosen to become a queen continue to eat only royal jelly.

This cache is located at the Coweta County Fairgrounds and it will be available for you to hunt whenever the front gate is open. Generally that will be from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (or as late as 11:00 pm) on Saturday and from 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm on Sunday. Our hours vary with the event(s) that we have going on at the time.

The cache container holds a log and a pen and there's room for small swag and trackables. Happy caching!!!!

FTF honors go to doombuggygrl74 & mjdurrough. Congratulations!!!!
