shawhh: this one has had a good run, but has been burned 3 times, vandalized 2 times, and has not had that many people coming to seek it out despite the unique location. i went by today and picked up the remains of the cache and am going to archive this one. sort of sad about it as it was the first cache i hid. this one's gone. -harry

Geocache Description:

located on sandhills gamelands near hoffman, n.c. short hike to cache

located on the sandhills gamelands near hoffman, n.c. this cache is near a seasonally wet carolina bay. in the spring the spring peepers sing lustily along as they are in a mating frenzy. also of note is a colony of red cockaded woodpeckers nearby, an endangered species found only in the longleaf/sandhills type of habitat. the cache is far enough away so as not to disturb the birds. look for the living pines covered in sap. please observe the closed road signs as you drive on the gamelands. hope you enjoy the peace and quiet of this large natural area. the cache is your standard green ammo can. please cover it as you found it. thanks. ps- during the months of september thru february the gamelands is open to hunting on m-w-sat. blaze orange hat or outerware is advisable if hunting for the cache during these times. be safe.
