Geocache Description:

A nice hike will get you up to this traditional cache. The directions below are the way we went when we placed the cache, and you COULD park closer, but that wouldn’t be as much fun.

Wonder what the cache name means? Hint: it’s Latin .
If you do, and know the area, you probably know where it is now. Or, you can go the way we did (refer to the coordinates below):

PARK is near the corner of Wabash & Prospect, in Yorba Linda. Head uphill, following the White Fence (WF), as if you were continuing north on Prospect. When you get to LOOK NE, look to the Northeast (duh!). You will see you destination, and understand the name better. We prefer to go straight at this point, for better scenery, or you can keep following the WF right, and take the next WF left. Both trails join up again at REJOIN. If you have never been to the beautiful Redwood Grove in Carbon Canyon Regional Park, now is a great time for a side trip to it (and two more caches). After that, follow the WF around the grove, to LEFT, and go left there. Keep following the WF up and around the housing. Sure was nicer here before all the houses were built. You can stop at FOUNTAIN and admire the neat fountain sculpture down in front of the house. Keep following the WF. Don’t even think of heading direct to the cache yet. At PAVED, turn left up the paved access road. At LV PAVED, you will need to leave the paved road, and find one of several ways up to the next level. Head toward LAST HILL. There you will find a trail up to the top of the “Papilla”, and the CACHE. This route was about 2.3 miles, one way. Back down can be shorter. See below.

A few words on the vegetation: Right now (Christmas 2005), it is dry and pretty much knocked down on the trails. I would still advise long pants. At other times of the year, I have seen it very tall, green, wet and slippery. Still another time it was tough, scratchy brush, and I wished I had my Gaiters. It varies a lot with season and rainfall. Enough said.

At the top, look for where you would hide a cache. There are not a lot of possibilities. The cache is medium sized generic Tupperware, NOT visible to the casual muggle visitor. Check the clue if needed. Watch out for large bugs near the cache. PLEASE replace it as found, so it is NOT visible from the trail side. Believe it or not, this nice little spot gets quite a few visitors, based on trail wear I have seen. Enjoy the view! To the North, you can see about half our “U-Trail” in the upper Chino Hills State Park. I could pick out 5 or 6 cache locations. Likewise to the East, you are looking right up Telegraph Canyon, and the North Ridge Trail all the way to Gilman Peak, also in the State Park. Another 5 – 6 cache locations can be seen. On a clear day, you will see Catalina Island easily and I have seen San Clemente Island (where our daughter Kimmer works!).

You can return the same way you came, OR: Back down at PAVED, turn left. Follow the WF down to Valley View Cir. From here, there are many possible routes back to PARK. I’ll give you the most direct: Turn left towards REST ROOM. Yes, it IS a Rest Room! It’s just a few step off the WF trail, onto the Black Gold golf course. Seems to be open whenever the golf course is. After your optional stop, continue down Valley View to VV RIGHT. Turn right on Valley View Circle (yes, it IS the corner of Valley View Cir and Valley View Cir.! ). At LEFT DOWN, turn left downhill on the WF trail, and after the trail takes a right turn, you will be back on Wabash, just 0.2 mile or so from your car. Total this way will be about 4.0 miles or so. There are certainly closer places to park. If you do so, use care. These are very uhhh… “top shelf” neighborhoods. I have no doubt that the Brea Police number is on speed dial on most phones. Park carefully!
