Geocache Description:

THIS CACHE IS NOT ACCESSABLE DIRECTLY FROM HIGHWAY 6/191. Mount Elliott (Elliott Peak) is @ 7142' atop the Bookcliffs betweeen Woodside and Green River. It is difficult to access in that you must drive around and hike up the "backside" or eastern flank. To do this, you need an ATV or dirtbike. From Woodside, you must drive 9 miles along the north side of the Price River, then cross the River and continue on the old road for another 7 miles to the base of Mount Elliott. DO NOT attempt to cross the Price River if it is flowing above 50 cfs http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?09314500 The road along the north side of the Price River is maintained by Emery County for approximately 6 miles beginning at Highway 6/191 near Woodside. But, shortly after the county maintenance ends you come to the 1st of a series of rock slides that are difficult or impossible for most full sized vehicles. The most difficult (and potentially dangerous) part of the road is the river crossing. Again, DO NOT drive across the river if it is flowing above 50 cfs. It is wise to wade the river and locate the rocks and holes before driving any vehicle across. Once across the river, the road is in relatively good shape for approximately 2 miles but then you come to a rock slide which will stop full-sized vehicles. The base of Mount Elliott is still another 5 miles from this point, so it will be a long hike without an ATV or dirtbike. A good rider on an ATV or dirtbike can drive to the base of Mount Elliott. Park @ N39 11.202 W110 17.699 6552' Hike to the saddle @ N39 11.130 W110 17.946 6856' Then pick your way through the numberous small cliffs to last and thickest cliff band @ N39 10.989 W110 17.981 The container is a 50 cal. ammo can containing a FTF certificate redeemable for dinner at Grogg's in Price (contact cache owners). Assorted tools, lights, brochures, maps, toys and log book, pencils, pencil sharpener, pens and a history of the road onto Elliott Mesa and the Beckwith Plateau. Please take all precautions and enjoy the view from Mount Elliott as few have ever stood where you will be standing.
