Geocache Description:

Mayan Adventure

NOTE: The above coords are not where the cache is. Consider yourself warned. This is a short but very interesting hike. It will be about .3 miles from part one to the last part. Give yourself 45 minutes to complete it. Part of the terrain is relatively steep with a fair amount of bushwhacking. All parts should be fairly easy finds. Half of the hike is on the Greenbelt Trail (White Blazes).

Half of the hunt will be on or just off of well marked trails, however there is light to heavy bushwhacking in some sections and you WILL be getting wet. Please take proper precautions IE: bug spray, walking staff and maybe an extra pair of shoes.

Now that that is out of the way I guarantee you will have a blast with this cache. This is one you will not soon forget.

Here is the mission:

Recover The Sacred Book of the Maya - Popol Vuh.

History of the Popol Vuh:

Christians read the Bible. Muslims study the Koran. Hindus accept the Vedas. The Maya, the indigenous people of southern Mexico and Guatemala, revere the holy Popol Vuh.

It is believed that the Maya book of creation was first written in hieroglyphics. After the Spanish conquest of the Yucatan, indigenous people were persecuted and most Mayan books were burned. But the stories were passed along orally.

In 1558, a Maya transcribed the Popol Vuh into the Quiche language. Almost two centuries later, a priest, Father Francisco Ximenez, found the manuscript in his church in Chichicastenango, Guatemala and translated it into Spanish. For almost a century, the manuscript was lost.

The last time anyone searched for the Popol Vuh was 12 years ago. They have not been heard fron since. A few days ago a local fisherman found this message written in Mayan Glyphs.

We believe it contains a hint as to where the Popol Vuh might be. First we need you to translate the message, then we need you to go out and search for the Book. We beleive you are the most qualified person for the job. That and you're the only one crazy enough to try. The given coords are near the location where the message was found. Once you have the Glyphs translated, visit the site and try to find more clues.

You should also know that legend says anyone who hunts for the sacred book will be cursed. While we don't believe that a curse exists, we do know that the forest is the home of The Mayan Quetzamuggles. These are barbaric people that believe the Popol Vuh should remain in the forest forever. If you encounter the Quetzamuggles, run, run as fast as you can! Good luck!

For the sake of the event, I have translated the Glyphs for you:Tunnel of stone and water
