PLEASE
DISCARD THIS CACHE SHEET AFTER APRIL 1st 2007.
This mini-micro
three-season cache is located in Deering Oaks, a popular urban park
in downtown Portland. Things to do: there is a small playground for
the kids, lit tennis courts, baseball and softball diamonds and
several walking paths to enjoy. There is also a large duck pond
with a separate fountain area for the kids to play in when it's hot
and humid. Just don't plan on Monkezuma being here for any of it!
Come summer, he's outta here... and in search of the endless
winter.
If you like, there are plentiful large trees to sit under and read
a book in the spring sun, enjoy a fall picnic or just to take a
half-hour for a relaxing urban winter walk. I must say, it's quite
nice to have this park mostly to yourself. : )
Downtown Portland is also an easy walk from here if you'd like to
explore a bit more.
This park is always open and available in the winter and the main
paved walkway through the park is plowed as well. Parking is
usually very good: there are several lots throughout the park and
there is also readily available street parking. All the lots are
completely free of charge as are most of the surrounding streets
around the park.
This hide is uniquely designed as a winter find and archives
between April 1st and October 1st. With less geomuggles about, it's
a fun grab for those that like to play in the cold.
Terrain is flat and level until the very end. Make sure to bring a
pencil, be safe, and have fun!! : )
