gekoh #02: Nydalsbakken Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Makuta Teridax: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

I have earlier asked about the plans for this cache. This is now more than two months ago. Due to lack of response from the owner, this cache is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Makuta Teridax

Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden in the abandoned Nydalsbakken jumping hill in a black 35mm film canister hidden inside a wooden chuck.

Be aware, the wodden stairs are rotten. / Vær forsiktig, trappen begynner å bli i dårlig forfatning.

English:
Imagine ten thousand people gathered down by the Akerselva river in Nydalen. That many could come to watch national ski jumping championships held in this hill between 1914 and 1953. In 1921 even Crown Prince Olav participated in this hill. The hill record is 53,5 meters. Originally the jumping hill was situated on the other side of the river but when a railroad was constructed in 1900 the jumping hill had to move. In 1876 they jumped 10 meters in the old hill.
Down by the river bank you can se remains of the old concrete culvert that helped the jumpers to avoid falling into the river. The landing slope and the stairs up are still intact and if you look closely you can see the jumping table and the foundation for the inrun and other installations. The now removed ramp was buildt over Maridalsveien road.

Norsk:
Ovarennet gikk i sin tid i stilas over Maridalsveien.
