Gotta have a kayak, canoe or other non-gas powered boat to get this
one...no land access!
This is the second in a LONG list of Kayak Caching spots!
Be sure to take a few moments to look up...there is a nesting pair
of osprey at this lake, been here for many years. LOTS of ducks and
other birds! Bring your fishing pole and license! This is a
beautiful forest lake, darkened by the tannins from the fallen
trees in the lake.
5 difficulty level is because you have to have a boat of some kind
to get to it!! With a boat, it's about a 2.5!
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: Hwy 101 to Hwy 104 (toward Hood Canal
Bridge), exit Olympic Music Festival/Quilcene (before the Chimacum
exit), go around under the freeway and turn right at the stop sign,
go to just past mile marker 9 and turn right on the Tarboo Lake
Rd., stay to the right at any turn decisions you come to, this is 3
miles of gravel/dirt road that dead ends at the lake. There is a
kinda grubby outhouse, but, it usually has paper and works in
desperation!
STARTING CONTENTS:
- .50 for FTF
- 1 Geocaching smashed penny
- 2 micro erasers
- 2 micro clips
- 3 Geocaching button
This is a film canister, so, think SMALL!! There is a log BUT no
pen/pencil, try not to get anything wet!
HAVE FUN AND ENJOY THE SCENERY!!

August 15 by boshea (1304 found) Another kayaking cache which has been on our list for a long time - quick paddle across, saw a string dangling in the water, nothing at the other end... GPSr then jumped up to point us in another direction, so we paddled over there, looked around for a while with no luck, decided to leave the boat again, and found it in the second spot I looked - would not have found it from the relative dryness of the kayak - perhaps the water level is down? TNLN, SL. Thanks!
[view this log] | October 14, 2008 by tolmaus (3228 found) NOTE: The Hint does NOT reflect the location of the cache! There was no osprey nest as far as we could see. Also, the log does not seem to be floating as much as it is stuck in the mud.
[view this log] | October 11, 2008 by swaninwa (2910 found) Took a stab at this one with "The Porters in WA". We couldn't get the coords to settle -- no matter where we went the GPSer told us the cache was 40' in the other direction. We poked around a while and even used the clue, but still no joy. Hope to try again another time.
[view this log] | September 18, 2008 by The Pirates of the Yukon (1333 found) Yarr, the old Pirate paddled his inflatable Jolly Boat to this one , but had to get out and get wet feet to reach it. Sadly the old Osprey nest is gone, but there were a few band tailed pigeons around. The fish were not feeding but he had fun trying anyhow. SL thanks for rehide and pics by Tolmaus.TFTH
