Travel beautiful rustic and winding roads to Wildact Mountain
State Park. On a steep ridge overlooking the scenic Kickapoo River
Valley, this area offers plenty of hiking trails with spectacular
views.
We have the shelter reserved for the day. Picnic tables are
limited, so please bring your own chairs, picnic blankets, etc.
This is a family event, and all participants are requested to act
accordingly. (See the park's rules about pets.) The event will be
held rain or shine.
Camping is also available for those who wish to stay for the
weekend.
This is an great spot, offering outstanding opportunities and
challenges for the serious geocacher. Plenty of hills, deep woods,
cliffs and marginal satellite reception at times. As usual, we will
also have some easier hides on easier terrain as well.
So gear up for the forest and come picnic with us! Leave the
restaurants and stores behind. Meet fellow geocachers and put a
face to a name!

We'll have the grills ready for you at 12 noon. The WGA plans to
have some ice and bottled water for you. If you prefer soda, please
bring your own.
What to bring for the picnic
- Your own meat to grill
- Table setting for you and your family (or guests)
- Lawn chairs in case we run out of table space
- Beverages for your group
- A food item to pass Because everyone will be bringing food,
please don't bring a large amount (enough to serve your group is
sufficient) as we want to minimize leftovers. To ensure variety, please bring an item based on
your last name, as shown below:
-
- Last name A-H:
dessert
- Last name I-P: salad,
fruit, and/or vegetables
- Last name Q-Z: chips,
pretzels, and/or snacks
We plan to have a number of temporary caches hidden, and there
are also
existing caches in this
immediate area. (If you are interested in helping with the temp
hide placements, please post on the
"Volunteers needed" thread on wi-geocaching.com)
For cache hunting, bring your GPS receiver. If you don't have
one, you can be on a team with others and find out what geocache
hunting is all about. There will be laptops available to load the
area caches into your unit. While we will have several common cable
styles available, please bring your receiver's cable along, just in
case.
If you have an FRS radio, bring it along so you can communicate
with each other efficiently. (Taunting and cheering are also
acceptable and encouraged!) FRS channel 7 will be used. We plan to
have the FRS repeater system going as well.
We will take a group photo promptly at 5 PM near the shelter.
All are encouraged to stay for the photo so that we can show what
an awesome group of people we had attend our event!
More information to come: We are still in the planning stages,
so more event details will be worked out in the coming weeks.
We will keep everyone who registers for the picnic informed via
either email updates or forum posts. We are all looking forward to
a great event filled with caching, friends, food and fun!
