The cache is a camo'd tin hidden along a raised public walkway
between Traeger Elementary and a subdivision that crosses over
Sawyer Creek. Muggles could be heavy during school time. Bring your
own pencil/pen.
As a lil' BakRdz many moons ago, I was "forced" to walk to school
every day (uphill both ways in the snow). School was 1 mile
away...about a half a mile south, then a half a mile east along
boring sidewalks. "If only there was a way to go straight
there...Hmm?"
Well before GPS or satellite imaging, I turned on my internal
compass and started out to blaze my own shortcut to school:
1. Follow the train tracks (after putting my ear to the track and
listening for a train)
2. Jump the creek (after throwing rocks in it and trying to catch
crayfish)
3. Up the ravine through the woods (after sneaking a peek in a tree
fort)
4. Through the field (after trying to catch a grasshopper)
5. Behind the church (after dodging the deacon so I don't get a
lecture)
6. And finally to school!
While the distance was certainly shorter, the reality is it took me
longer to go to school this way. But the journey was well worth it.
Sadly today's cities take much of that adventure of discovery away
by planning and building the shortcuts for kids much like this
area.
This cache celebrates the adventurous spirit that drove us to find
our own "short cuts" and the kid still in us that drives us to the
sport we love. Please take care with the cache and replace it as
close or better than it was found. Happy Hunting!
