May Bank Holiday Weekend is approaching, and we've booked a whole
load of pitches at the Cornish Farm Touring Park, just off the M5
at Shoreditch near Taunton. We were lucky to find a campsite able
to take a group booking at such short notice. Pitches have been
booked from Thursday 25 to Monday 29 May 2006 and are now all
spoken for! We have a bit of scope for booking some extra ones, but
this will now need to be done directly through the campsite as the
cache event organisers will be on site from Thursday. If booking
through the campsite, please be sure to specify you want to be
close to the geocaching campers - there are only a few spaces left
at the time of writing so you may be disappointed!
The main date for the cache event will be Saturday 27th May - day
visitors also welcome, but we would like to know in advance if you
are coming along so that we can forewarn the campsite owners, and
also give you details of parking. Please email Stuey through his
gc.com profile up until Saturday. The Cache Hoppers will be offline
after Wednesday.
Caravans and motorhomes are
allowed on site, but will be parked up on hardstandings.

Saturday - We decided it would be best to keep this as
informal as possible, without any rigid timetables for people to
have to worry about. So we will meet up on site (campers and day
visitors) from 11am onwards. Details of new caches and the
children's onsite puzzle cache will be handed out then, and a few
cachers will have some geocaching related goodies for sale. We'll
also do the obligatory TB drop and swap and coveting of Geocoins
and Jeeps, sign the cache event log book (if it gets there in
time!), event flags and whatever else may be brought along. This
meet up can take as long as it needs, and then everyone can do
their own thing in the afternoon - caching, flying kites, beach,
local attractions, etc., and meet back on site from 6pm
onwards for a communal BYO BBQ. Please note: some of
the local caches (new and existing) will have tokens in for the
children to collect which are redeemable for sweeties back on site!
One token per cache per child please. There should be plenty to go
around. We'll let you know on Saturday which caches contain the
tokens, but suffice to say they will be in child friendly ones!
Unfortunately there is no play park on site for the children -
nearest one is half a mile away along a cycle route. Please make
sure to bring footballs, swingballs, boules, gameboys, racquets,
etc etc, to help keep the youngsters amused. If you have a kite and
room in the car for it, please bring it!!!
Places of interest within easy reach of Cornish Farm Touring Park:
Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Clarke's Shopping Village, Glastonbury,
and Taunton is just 2 miles away. Bridgewater Bay is to the north
for anyone wanting a day at the beach, and Exmoor National Park is
within easy driving distance.

The campsite brochure mentions
Ecomats - they will not be insisting that these are used for
as as we are short-term visitors. The Ollies have one and rate them
quite highly.

Barbeques - Campsite
brochure clearly states no camp fires. Barbeques are permitted.
They have stipulated though that if disposable bbq's are used
campers must ensure they do not damage the grass. Please use stands
(either purpose built or bricks) or use them on the gravel
pathways.

For all those "in the dark" over
electric hook-ups, the following info was kindly supplied by
the campsite owners:
"Motorcaravans and caravans
can safely connect to the electricity with the normal hook up leads
as they have an RCD build into the vans. As tent campers, many
people now make use of electricity when available by plugging into
a mobile mains unit. This piece of kit plugs into the site box with
the normal blue plug and then enables normal 3 pin plugs to be
plugged into sockets on the mains unit which has a RCD built
in."

Electric hook-ups .... again! Thanks to
Team Phoebe for this info. Triple mobile units are available
here at a cost of £55. The UK Camping Association recommend
that a single one should be around £50 and a triple one slightly
more, so these seem pretty reasonable.
