Everybody Loves Birdman - Dueling Tributes Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

DinaWorks: I have multiple reports that the entire area has been completely bulldozed and that checking on it is really not necessary. Birdman270 has moved on to other location-based pursuits but his contribution to the local geocaching community has not been forgotten. He's a great guy. Thanks to all who visited and all who helped place this tribute in his honor.

Geocache Description:

On the occasion of birdman270 approaching his 1000th find, it seemed that simply EVERYBODY wanted to place a cache in his honor. So a bunch of us deferred to his longtime friend, toursport, for his OFFICIAL 1000th find tribute cache and we placed this cache instead.

Why Wisconsin? Well, birdman270 is a bit of a first-to-find hound and his dream has been to get a FTF in Wisconsin. So here's his chance. He, of course, was given the coords in advance, so his FTF on 5/1/2011 was honorary. The first person to get here after it publishes can also claim the FTF.

Birdman270 is something of a Renaissance Man. His interests are many and varied. The initial swag reflects some these interests:

  • compasses - to represent geocaching
  • little pinball games - with a tropical fish theme
  • gold coins - because he is a numismatist

We could just have easily included:

  • birds to represent his name
  • Green Bay Packers items because he's a fan (a fact I overlook for the sake of our friendship!)
  • psychedelic teddy bears in honor of him being a Dead Head

If you have these kinds of items consider bringing them to trade. There is so much initial swag, please feel free to take something even if you don't have something to trade.

DinaWorks: Birdman is good people! One of the truly nicest people I know!

Wheels00: Birdman270: The only cacher I know who'll come out to do a series he's already completed just to have a nice walk and lively conversation at one in the morning. Proven to be a good friend in the short time we've know each other. Congrats on 1000.

MGb: Birdman - Putting aside the ridiculously evil hiding tendencies, a finer man is not to be found - among mortals. Thanks for the ride chief!

BugleAnn and BugleLou: Even tho your "Smiley" bit the dust at the end of "Out of Sight" it was still an awesome day. I'm glad Buglelou and I got to share the trail with you!

TurtleFan: Birdman is one of the most generous and kind-hearted cachers I know. While he gets excited about FTF runs and numbers like the best of 'em, he will prioritize good company and the social component of caching over those aspects more than most. He's got the gear, he's got no fear, he's got your back and will lead the pack. We are soooo fortunate to have Birdman as part of our community. Congrats and thank you for all that you do to make caching that much more special!!

Sláinte1969: I'll always remember Birdman270 having bad karma with some of my caches - either because they were muggled, there were too many people around, or his geosenses were just off! Message in a Bottle, Kneel & Lift and Walking Over Water will also have special meaning to him!

One of the best things about Birdman270 is how he loves the thrill of the FTF and helping his fellow cachers. He frequently returns with friends to previous caches he has found to help them out or just share really good caches with them. He is such a great steward of positive geocaching experiences!!

NatalieD!: Jay, you've been a great friend and geocaching buddy and I am so glad to have met you this past year! Congrats on your 1000th, and I hope you enjoy the tributes! Have fun FTF'ing your way to your next 1000! ;) --Nat

Slicrick: Congratulations on hitting 1000!

Cowcutter1: Birdman once said to me "Caching isn't about the smiley, it's more about the hike I enjoy...you know...getting there." So I wonder why the rush for all the FTF's...silly Bird

Tzinny: If you want to see the CSI Geocacher, go out with Jay. As he approaches GZ, he will point out things that are insignificant to the average cacher but are vital in determining where the cache may be hidden. He is truly into geocaching for the right reasons and will often come along on hikes even if he has found all the caches in the area as he just wants to hang out with good friends. Congrats.

I originally placed this cache on 11/2/2010 only to find out it was on private property. Since then it has been a comedy of errors getting it back in play. Special thanks to Wheels00 for retrieving the cache from its original hiding spot and to behmSquad and ShazamMan for the assist on the cache re-placement on 4/9/2011.
