The Al Bungard Conservation Area is named for former Chatham County Engineer Al Bungard. He was responsible for many projects that impact us daily; Truman Parkway, multiple flood/drainage mitigation projects, and this fine park.
Cache is a regular-sized welder's tube full of toys suitable for children. Cache is hidden just on the edge of the standing water of the wetlands this park helps conserve. Due to placement, flooding should have no impact on the cache. But the heavy rains may make approaching the cache more difficult. All depends on the recent weather.
This conservation area is chock full of wildlife - take your time and stroll about, lots to see. While hiding this cache, spotted a number of different kinds of birds, multiple squirrels, saw deer tracks and evidence of wild hogs.
Remember, park hours are from 8:00 AM til 5:00 PM (a large gate gets locked).
