Geocache Description:

Cache can be accessed off of the Rattlesnake Pike (RT 504) in Centre County. A good topo map will show you the way, but maptech probably will not have enough detail.

Gum Boot Hill has a legend behind it which says that a hunter long ago got lost in these mountains and was never found until the following Spring. The search parties found only his boots as the weather and the animals took care of the rest. A monument was erected to his memory and a pair of old boots is often left at the old monument by some of the locals.

Northern Centre County is arguably one of the most remote areas of Pennsylvania and only a few roads can lead you where you want to go, so good mapwork is important for this cache. The cache can be reached by following RT 504 and then finding the correct "side" road. I'll leave that up to you. Do not hesitate to explore the road which traverses SGL 103. It is 9 miles long and connects Rt 504 with RT 144. Lots of game can be seen on this road and it is readily accessiable. Just watch out for the potholes!
