Warning

Please note: To use the services of geocaching.com, you must agree to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

You will need at least high clearance, 2-wheel drive vehicle to explore this area. The cache is an ammo can.
From the cache site, look to the East. The mushroom shaped tower in the distance is the Shuttle Tracking Station on La Posta Road. The only time you will see it moving is when it is tracking a shuttle over the Western United States, so you probably won't want to spend too much time up there, waiting to see it in action.
Hope you enjoy this area as much as we do.

@ 1605. Yep, the gate was locked. There were several motorcycles running the road on the other side of the gate. I thought that it was too late to try to hike to the farther ones, so turned my car around and headed back down. TNLN, SL, TFTC.

We parked at "Going on a Bear Hunt" just below this, then the two dogs and I found it as our first cache in many months. The object was to get out, get the dogs some much needed exercise off leash, get some fresh air for myelf, and pre-work off some of tomorrow's turkey, ham, etc. Thought I'd go check out Buckman mountain since it was in my bookmarks list and haven't been there. I've got the reverse combination 4x4, kinda low clearance vehicle. Made a few wrong turns to get to this side of the mountain. Got in some slip sliding 4x4ing on the mud, snow and ice on the north side off of Pine Valley road, but I didn't feel I have high enough clearance for some ruts we encountered. Chickened out since it was just us, came back around on the freeway to this side. Ended up walking up to the locked gate from Bear Hunt since we were already out of the car and the mountain looked so close. Got a couple caches in and proceeded around to the parking coords back on the north east side that were listed for the Buckman mountain cache. But then, we had trouble finding any real trail up. Followed up a few washes until the brush got too thick for my liking and then decided we'll make another go at the top another time after we see if there is a better route on the north west or south west sides. We already got in some exercise, used up our time for the day pretty much and already went through my only two tangerines... so we turned back. Passed a couple ATVs on the walk, but you can hear them comming with enought time to leash the dogs and move off the trail for them. TFTCes and Merry Christmas!.

Greg and I were on a mission to get the 3.5/5 difficulty/terrain combo for my final square in the Fizzy challenge. Starting just before 3pm and going on foot, we didn't have a lot of time to spare, so we skipped most of the caches on the way, but since this was a good size and not too far off the path we spent a couple of minutes getting it. Thanks for the cache.

Spending the day picking up caches in the Delorme pages along the south end of the state. See my blog for details on my adventures - (visit link) The gate was locked, so we hiked in from here to get the higher terrain cache for the Fizzy challenge.
