NOTE: The coordinates listed for this
cache are NOT the coordinates of the main cache; they are the
coordinates of the first satellite cache!
This cache consists of four "satellite" microcaches that are
used to locate the main cache, just like your GPS does. You only
need to find three satellites to calculate the main cache's
position, but with more you can get a better fix!
The satellite locations are:
Number |
Location |
1 |
N 37° 38.672' W 121° 46.929' |
2 |
N 37° 41.715' W 121° 46.190' |
3 |
N 37° 41.395' W 121° 43.513' |
4 |
N 37° 40.347' W 121° 46.578 |
Each satellite contains a small card giving the distance to the
main cache. No direction information is given!
Despite the cache name, no trigonometry is required to do the
calculation. It only requires algebra and the Pythagorean theorem.
In principle, you can get the answer from any 2 of the satellite
caches; you get two possible positions for the main cache, and use
common sense to rule one out. But it works best to use three
satellites. If you find all four, you can check your result.
The main cache has a magic theme, because I am a magician. When
the cache was placed, it contained:
- Spooky Match Box Trick
- Vanishing Coin Trick
- Nickels to Dimes Trick
- Poker-sized Tally Ho Cards
- Logbook and Pen
